According to the oldest Egyptian tradition, she was sent to earth by Ra to destroy humanity as it had gone rancid with wickedness. As she unleashed her bloodthirsty wrath upon the humans, Ra realizes his mistake and takes pity on humanity. He sets a trap of red colored beer to trick her into drinking. Hathor then falls into a deep sleep and awakes as the antithesis of her former self. Now rather than a destroyer she is a creator. Viewed as the goddess of motherhood, fertility and joy.
